Waving Free Agents who JUST SIGN

Post by Guest on Mon Mar 10, 2014 3:19 pm

I do it too, so I'm not pointing the finger at anyone.

But it's unrealistic.

Of course, we have a policy to send those guys to AAA.

So what can we do?

How about, SIGN THOSE GUYS TO MILB (AAA) contracts??

Meaning, if a guy is signed to less than 1mil per yr, he can go to AAA immediately. But, if you give a guy 1mil or more per yr, then he must be on 25man for duration of off-season and first two matchups. Cuz I mean, if you feel a guy is worth 1mil+ per, then he should be on ur big club.

Thoughts?

I think it closes that 'loophole,' altho the arg can be made that guys can just claim to block.

So, with that said, I'm cool if we change or if we don't. Just think maybe we should discuss this.

I'm in favor of this idea. Is it applicable to 2 yr $.8 deals?

yes. any deal under 1M per year would be a AAA deal so to speak.
But once you call that contract up to the big then to send back to AAA you have to go to waivers

I don't feel that guys like ibanez, who is as old as the yankees franchise, should have automatic passes to the minors.

Personally I think all free agent signings should not be permitted to be on waivers until after the first week. If you signed them, they should be on your opening day roster. Want depth? Sign guys for .4 or .8 with less than 5 years experience.

Just my opinion.

Yea, I agree.  All 1 year contracts over $1m should be on the roster.

Multiyear contracts on the 25 man too.

If you want someone in AAA, like Expos said...sign a guy with less than 5 years experience.

Good idea.  It's getting unrealistic.

The Moosehead signed him to a minor league tryout, a la Manny Ramiriez-Blue Jays.

This stuff happens in the majors.  Sure, Ibanez is set to start and DH with Angels but in fantasy land, in a 16-team league, he's not that relevant.

I'm good with whatever the league decides.  The fact that they're exposed on waivers means there is no guarantee they'll make it to your farm.

Well that's why I came up with the compromise solution as my initial proposal.

If we give a guy 1mil, let's put him on the roster.

If it's less than a mil, then he's AAA material.

I have been signing n waiving guys myself, so I hope you do not think I am targeting you, Tim.

It's just the process.

This cannot go into effect for the guys we have currently done this to.

But, going forward it can.

If you want to change why not have it the same as a f/a signing. Can`t waive him until June 1st. You must have wanted him in the first place or else you wouldn`t have signed him.

This way you will definitely will be more careful of who you sign

Nah, many have been doing this so no target on my back.  I can see my spate of RW posts igniting this thought.

I'm all game for whatever.  I'm assuming though that the proposed rule of 1mil+/multi yr guys is for the first 2 weeks of match ups?  Also, wouldn't or shouldn't this rule come into effect at least in 2015?

Agreed on both.

And under 1mil guys can go straight to AAA.

Sounds reasonable.
