Love that idea as well! I think we should just add 1 guy to each of our 4 divisions!  Can yahoo support 20?

Yea.

Mark got me into two leagues with 20 teams a piece.

Hence my 'push' here.

After all, BoS is the KING of all fantasy dynasty leagues, and needs to properly grow as such!

Re: '15 BOS EXPANSION TALK (looks like it wont happen)

Post by HELLFISH on Fri Mar 14, 2014 3:54 pm

to recap.
Expansion for 2015. 4 new teams (one add to each current div).

Current GM Protect # amount of player (between 15 to 20)
we either go with low # Prior to round 1 and protect 3 after every round
or
go with High # and only protect prior to expansion draft.
RFA Rights to be included in Expansion Draft.

Expansion draft 4 rounds:
Each team 6 picks per round 2 players max from any current team per round, which mean 8 team will have 2 player taken from roster and 8 will have one taken in 1st round.
so the second round if you lost 2 in 1st you can only lose 1 in round 2.
then 3rd would be same as round 1 and 4th would be same as 2nd.
that way all team lose the same amount of guys (total of 6)

'15 Rookie Draft:
'15 draft first 3 round round - Current GM's. Current GM get the first 48 picks plus the 3 comps on the books (so first 51) then new GM's get pick #52-64 in Sandwich 3rd-4th round new GM's 3 picks each (12 total Picks).

4th-6th sandwich RD after each round, 1 pick for new GM'S
7th round New GM's pick 5 more picks each at end of the round.

once complete Expansion Draft and Rookie draft will net new GM's 35 Total players,

then FA opens for all teams. (no trade prior to Expansion Draft. Trading opening Prior to Rookie Draft) so new guys could trade thier rookie draft picks in '15 or we can sell pick to them. lol

That would be awesome.

Just helps us to get an idea of how it may shake out.

This way we can adjust accordingly and get an idea if we're presenting attractive options to prospective owners.

If it's too putrid, we may not get action, ha.

Make sure each team takes a minimum amount of salary.

The draft order is set!

1 - Salt Lake City
2 - Las Vegas
3 - New York
4 - Akron

Snake Draft guys...

Remember your first 4 picks automatically give the player RFA status regardless of his status now. Whatever the status is after your first 4 picks is what the player will remain.

All teams must draft $40M worth of salary for the 2012 season.

Your base salary is $160M.

Each team will select 6 players in a round. Only 2 players may be drafted from existing teams in each round. After the round, existing teams will protect another 3 players.

There will be 4 rounds like this. Each expansion team will have 24 players after the draft.

No trading will be permitted during the draft.

Existing teams will all lose 8 players each.

All players that arent protected by existing teams are eligible for the draft (major and minor league).

We're still waiting on 3 teams to submit their 15 protected players so once we have all that set and i'm 100% updated we can start.

Beware of the $40M minimum salary required. You don't want to get stuck eating an existing team's bad contract because you didn't draft better players at the beginning. As you can see, there is plenty of talent available so there is no excuse not to get to $40M after the 1st or 2nd round. After each team's 1st pick you should all only have $20-$25M to go.

Use the available players list I made. Click the "Expansion Draft" link on the right of the forum if you havent done so already.

If you have any questions, PM me. I'll help you out the best I can. I want to see you guys build some contenders!

-JB

Re: '15 BOS EXPANSION TALK (looks like it wont happen)

Post by Xezus on Fri Mar 14, 2014 4:21 pm

well i can just post it here since i already thought about it.

Potential keeps based on current roster:
Trout
Stanton
Arenado
Rendon
Yelich
Buxton
Cole
Miller
Wheeler
Archer
Baez
Correa
Appel
Gray

Toss up between Giolito and Butler for the last spot

Also would be heavily dependent on how arenado and rendon perform this year if i would sub one out for the other arm in that battle.  And beede is the wildcard

So hopefully that helps.

Mike Zunino
Devin Mesoraco
Anthony Rizzo
Andrelton Simmons
Brad Miller
Justin Upton
Mike Minor
Patrick Corbin
Jarrod Parker
Matt Harvey
Tony Cingrani
Sonny Gray
Billy Hamilton
Xander Bogaerts
Noah Syndergaard

Leaving guys I really value in
Jason Castro
Jim Henderson
Iwakuma
Jon Lester
Domonic Brown
Austin Jackson
Ben Revere
Cody Allen
Clint Frazier
Lucas Sims
Kolten Wong
Alex Meyer and countless more prospects

This expansion draft hurts me the most I would say.  I'm lucky I can only lose 6 guys total.

But it does stand a good chance of passing.

The key to me was gonna be the opinions of the '4 farmers.'

2 of them voted in support, one did not. The other one has yet to comment.

I am against this as well. If it does happen, 2015 is too early. I spent a lot of time and effort on my draft and roster this offseason to leave all but 15 guys unprotected in an expansion draft. I look at the rosters and see how poor a lot of the starting pitching is. I dont see the depth to field exciting rotations.

Well, you'd lose 2, pull back some, lose 2, pull back more, lose 2.

But yea, those are very fair concerns.

However, having nearly a yr will allow people to get their houses in order. Whether it's 2015 or 2016, the affect on rosters/rotations will remain the same.

It is very understandable that you'd like more development with your guys to get a better understanding of what you're holding, as you just drafted them.

Whether this goes through or not, hopefully by the end of the year you will have a better understanding of your drafted players talent levels.

Our 'Mock Expansion Draft' should also help a lot of teams get a better understanding of how this could look like..

There are def a lot of concerns that may need to be further addressed.

It could be 2015 or 2036. You can do all the mock drafts in the world. You can try convincing me. My vote will still be no. I have no interest in playing in a 20 team league.

My only 'real concern' is Eric.

He is basically like an expansion team since he cleared the decks.

He has indicated he would at least listen after we mocked.

Here's my idea:

Eric's team is exempt from drafting
MY WHOLE TEAM is in the pool.

I join the other 4 teams in expansion draft.

If that's not sacrifice, I don't know what is!!

Re: '15 BOS EXPANSION TALK (looks like it wont happen)

Post by nostratimus on Fri Mar 14, 2014 8:54 pm

I'm not completely against this but here are my thoughts:

1) like Phil,  I'm very happy with 16 team league and 20 doesn't make me jump with joy. I left a 24 team league for a reason.

2) I thought we agreed (possibly even voted but can't remember) that major changes to this league would need at least 2 years to implement. This gives owners time to plan. Proposing this expansion idea and then saying it will prob happen in 2015 is not sufficient time for most teams unless you're team looks like AZ in which you're all in for 2014 and then the cupboard is bare for the future. Another problem is that this happened just after the major FA frenzy. Doesn't really affect how I spent my money but other owners may have spent more had they known next year was an expansion year and they'd lose their unprotected players. Again, one year's warning for expansion is ludicrous.

3) I can't remember very well but expanding to 20 just bc we have 4 guys waiting in the wings is not enough. It's nice to know that there are 4 guys waiting who can replace an owner for whatever reason but in the last 4 years, we've had to replace many owners. Things have seem to stabilize this past year but one year of stability is not sufficient to believe we're anchored down and ready to expand. I'd rather have 3 guys ready to commit and get on a wait list then adding 4 teams, and then needing to find 4 new owners in the next year or two for whatever reason.

Again, I'm open to listening to all sides but do feel like expansion for 2015 has too many issues.  On that note, what is the argument FOR expansion? Aside from having  3-4 guys ready to go?

That's not quite the sacrifice JI bc you gutted your futures for one more year of glory. So getting a new expansion team is not that much different and in fact, lets you start fresh! Not saying it works in your favour but it's definitely not that much of a sacrifice either.

And... If expansion even happens, all teams would be subject to it. Eric shouldn't get an exemption just bc he had a plan in place. 15 other owners have their own plans and expansion may interfere with their plans just as much. This is not aimed at you, Eric, bc I know JI made the reference an suggestion.

I've always wanted 20.

All great leagues expand.

Other 20+ league teams thrive.

And um, it'd be fun.

I posted above who I'd keep n who would be available. So, I wouldn't be too bare, but yet, I'd also be putting good stuff out there.

Looking closer at Eric's team and how it'd be affected is giving me pause though.

But, more people on the forum, more activity, and all of that is a benefit as well.
