Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
Illegal Bid
Each year, the salary may increase or decrease up to 25% of the average yearly salary or 1 mil per year. Since the average yearly salary is 6 mil, the most that it can change is 1.5 mil.
Just letting you know.

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
I don't believe you can match even for a sign and trade if you don't have the money to hold him for future years
I'd have to hear more from Sam and Dan but basically Michigan has all the leverage and you have none because if he declines to give you anything, he will get player anyway because this contract is illegal for you. And you aren't allowed to trade Leonard to anyone except the highest bidder

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
We already worked out a agreed a sign and trade and he is the highest bidder. With 27m in salary to use for this season and some ok money in future years I'd be able to buy someone out and keep Leonard if I wanted to which I considered doing. I'd only need a few million free next season and the one after

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
I also could use a pick to dump some salary for 17/18 which is all I need to do and had that lined up as an option.

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
Sorry Sydney, you can't sign and trade Kawhi.
Your 16-17 salary would be under the cap and thus unable to attain Kawhi.
Damn I would had bid on Kawhi had I had the funds to up Michigans bid earlier.
Winning bid goes to Michigan.

I thought I had 48 hours to make room and match an offer though?

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
Sorry buddy u have to sign him to trade him! It's in the name u don't have the cap to match. That's ur problem! Nice college try! No going over the cap at any time.

Correct u have 48 hours to get your cap to the point to match. But u did not do that you post that u were matching now.

Ok, sorry misunderstood when I could do the sign and trade. well if that's the case though I still have 48 hours from the winning bid before its final and anyone us won kawhi. So under the rules it's still not over. But obviously will be shortly. So he ain't michigans yet

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
I can't match now though. So me posting match for sign and trade doesn't negate the 48 hours that the bid needs to get through? I'm not saying I'm not matching to give him away and I can't match right now but very wel can later before its final.

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
Also remember u can not trade future money. U can only apply future cash to a players contract (pay down a contract). Also u can't sell ur picks for $ and apply the $ to future years. U can only trade $ for current year. Last u can't not assume a rollover $. Last year u got away with the funny deals but we tracking all future $ is offseason. #nomistakes.

I didn't get away wth anything it screwed me up. And I don't make funny deals I was just signing people with what I thought I had available.
Trades and buyouts I was referring to not the additional money but appreciate the clarification. I'll reignite my few options in the next 24 hours before he goes to Michigan and make one of the moves I was going to.

Yeah, Sydney you got a little bit over 17 hours to get your cap down, otherwise Kawhi is headed to the Great Lakes

Also, not picking on you at all Sydney but wanted to remind you that you have other money tied up in bids that you must factor into it.
That counts as money used as long as you are high bidder

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
Hate to do this, but this match is illegal, hence voiding your sign & trade.
Not including the active bids you have on, you are currently at 18.81M. Kawhi's contract is 21/21/23/25/25. You can't match this without restructuring, and you aren't even allowed to do that anymore since the 48 hour window expired.
After the Ty Lawson trade, Michigan can't bring Kawhi straight to his roster as he exceeds the cap in future years.
With all the illegal bids, Canton is award Kawhi at 22/22/22/22/22. Since Canton doesn't have the money with his money tied up to Klay's RFA bid, we will wait to see if DC decides to match Klay. If he does, Canton has the option to get Klay at 22 per. If DC choses to let Klay go to Canton, Kawhi would go back on the open market.

Re: Kawhi Leonard (SG/SF - SPURS) RFA Type C
I thought a matching bid could be restructured? So if a contract is front-loaded so that the RFA owner can't exactly match the first year, the owner can't restructure to accommodate?
In other words, you must be able to have funds to match the exact offer that was made?

Canton doesn't have money for him either with bids out on Klay and Kemba
