Rule Talk for 2017: Draft Round 8 Auction

Post by expos on Wed Jan 27, 2016 4:29 pm

Reducing war chest. We should have a bidding round. 5 or 10 picks and each pick is up for auction. People can bid on a number of picks after the draft

I move this here. Can a GM come up with a rule on how the Auction should work  so we can discuss and determine if we would vote this in for future.

if you are not for this post your CON, reason how it would hurt league. dont just post NO i don't like this. as that will not help we are not voting here. rule talk is just that talk.

post your pro or con be helpful to process.

16 slots; 500K minimum bid. 24 hour bid rules like FA. Highest bid wins. No max bid. Must go up in 500K increments. Highest Bidder given until next pick bid concludes. Pick itself cannot be traded once won. Next pick bid starts as soon as Previous pick is awarded to a winner

Now that I think about it- 12 hours from winning pick to make selection. That gives time for teams bidding on next pick to know who's available.

Simple enough. More money to be spent. I like it.

I'm for doing more than one round but regardless, you know I'm for it

Nice. One round to start would be cool. Then we can review add future rounds

I'm down for the Jimmy proposal.

He's been coming pretty hard with sharp ideas lately, and so I say let's adopt this one n see how it shakes out.

My only suggestion would be to reduce the number of slots to 10. I like a smaller amount going for more money.

I have seen Tim Luu after a bender...he needs more than 12 hours to recover. I don't mind if the slot stays open if the winning bid takes longer, he just runs the risk of losing his guy while others pick

I thought about that as well, but the problem becomes you don't know what players are available, so you may be bidding to make a pick of one specific guy but then the person before you who won the pick hasn't made a choice. Besides, if you are active in the bidding you are checking in to see if you won anyway. Should be no problem to have 12 hours once you win to post a player to pick since you obviously have your player in mind already.

Basically, the new bidders need to know what they are bidding on.

Also, while there is potentially room to argue that this idea could be fine tuned, I stand by my orig statement to just adopt Jimmy's idea.

With as much as he has proposed, he has earned a chance for one of his ideas to get a clear chance at succeeding.

Let's go with this, and see how it goes.

I`m good with it too but with a 12 hr clock what happens overnight? Maybe a compromise between the 12 and 24

I think a 24 hour clock is fine. Takes care of the overnight and plenty of time for the buyer. In most cases, I'm sure the pick will be made well within 24.

24 would probably be better, since I assume there will be at least two bids for an auction slot which will extend the time after the last bid closes.

So, I'm just trying to get this correct, we're adding half of a round worth of picks that you have to pay for to get guys you could've gotten for free earlier for the purpose of spending more money? It doesn't seem to make much sense to me and I doubt I'll participate much but you guys have fun

Not anything I would be interested in, and I have a ton of money. I also have about 10 guys on my roster, so my money will go very fast. I am more interested to see how the increase cost of declining an option will have an effect on the money owners have.

am with the non bidders, am cool with the majority of you guys bidding. if you can get 10 GM's to agree to this then am cool with and 8 pick auction round this year.

reason for 8 pick is S&D less picks for auction more Bids on the pick.

Not Counting Mark this right now has 6 Votes (i'd vote yes, to GM spend some cash). you guys need to hit the road, get the polling phone calls and get to 10 Caucuses members to approve you want auction this year.

Post by Guest on Tue Feb 09, 2016 9:33 am

Agreed. We can give this a whirl right away.

16 slots can take about 20 days with bidding/picking, so why not start today at 8pm ET?

24 hours to bid, and then as the other bidding is taking place, the guy OTC has time to pick.

It would run seamlessly, imo.

If for some reason this isn't great, we can just do it this year, but we should def try it this year and see how it goes.

Start us off tonight, Danno!

Some people made trades with certain values for 7th round picks that would not have been made if they knew you could buy an 8th rounder.

Total B.S. if you implement something new on the spot

New rules always take effect the following year, unless it is a loophole fix for the good of the league.

I am for implementing the auction next year as well. I agree that certain values were assigned to draft picks knowing it could/was the last one that a team could get.

Isn't a make or break thing, and I am fine with waiting, but do not think this would have changed anything....especially since I was one to buy lots of 7s.

Sometimes we get focused on people too technical.

This would have been fun. Oh wells.

But we should make an official voting thread to have this for next year, as it needs 10 of 16 votes to pass anyway.

Post by DmanofGod1 on Tue Feb 09, 2016 10:20 am

Yeah I'm fine with either.  I think this would have been fun for the league so I don't need to adhere so much to the rules to prevent a benefit.

But I'm for a whole round, not 8 picks.  This is 8th round.  I'm for spending money but if we are trying to get these picks up to 10 mil or something... that's an agenda that needs to be placed elsewhere.
