First rd picks I like
Durham Bulls - Keston Hiura (could probably hit in majors now)
Akron TommyJohns - Estevan Florial(could be this years acuna that jumps up list)

The reaches in first
F.V. Barons - Brendan McKay (based on him being a sp if he is a hitter then he is someone I like. However I don’t like anyone splitting time between field and pitching. )

WV Wild Things - Jeren Kendall (hopefully for WV I am wrong but looks like a fourth outfielder to me)

2nd rd picks I like
F.V. Barons - D.L. Hall (think he will be a 2 or 3 type)

Reaches in 2nd rd
Detroit Knights - Corbin Burnes(limited upside, I think he is a 4th sp type)

Ann Arbor Residuals - Adbert Alzolay(if he wasn’t a cub would he be thought of in the same way)

3rd picks I like not in love with anyone in this rd
Texas Bird Dogs - Jake Burger
CLUB Tijuana - Nate Pearson

Reaches in 3rd the round you reach for a catcher

Texas Bird Dogs - Seth Romero (will he stay out of trouble? I am betting he won’t)
Detroit Knights - Danny Jansen
Duluth Timberwolves - Jake Rogers

After the third rd it was either young players with upside or older players who are going to have to hit the ground running.

Last year, I saw a guy on Keith Law's List that got a lot of attention. I drafted that guy in the 5th Round last year.

I decided to give Keith Law a thank you by taking another recommendation this year...

Couldn't think of a better way to thank him for Fernando Tatis Jr.

Quick Draft Thoughts

1st Round
Picks I liked - Luis Robert, Jo Adell, Austin Hays
Picks I didn't - Brendan McKay, Pavin Smith, Shane Baz, Nick Pratto.
Comments: Hays looks solid and close to majors.  Luis Robert is the next heralded Cuban.  Hoping he's less like Rusney Castillo and more like Cespedes.  Adell has a big ceiling.  If I have a 1st round pick, I'm not taking a 1B.  1B are easy to come by anyway in fantasy and there is so high an expectation for their hitting that it's hard for them to reach it.  Use a 1st round pick on something that is hard to come by.

2nd Round
Picks I liked: Keibert Ruiz, Jon Duplantier, Yordan Alvarez, Corbin Burnes, Jesus Luzardo
Picks I didn't: Heliot Ramos, Lolo Sanchez, Adbert Alzolay, Gabriel Arias
Comments: Picks I liked are consistent top 100 guys.  There were some high ceiling guys taken but have too much risk.  You can get guys like that in the later rounds.  Also, when a popular team's milb system is weak, the prospect who happens to be on top will get overrated.  They may not be a top 10 prospect for a good milb system but because they are on top for a bad system, people rush to take them.  IMO, this made Heliot Ramos and Adbert Alzolay 2nd round picks.

3rd Round
Picks I liked: Jorge Guzman, David Peterson, Danny Jansen, Nate Pearson
Picks I didn't: Jeter Downs, Blayne Enlow
Comments: There were still some top 100 guys left to find.

4th Round
Picks I liked: Brent Rooker, Tristen Lutz, Aramis Ademan,
Picks I didn't: Kevin Merrell, Willi Castro, Alex Lange
Comments: It wouldn't surprise me if Brent Rooker outperformed all the 1B in the first round and he could be had in 4th.  Also, many think Ademan is actually the cubs top prospect so in the 4th, he becomes good value.

5th Round
Picks I liked:  Akil Baddoo, Williams Conteras, Ryan Vilade, Bubba Thompson,
Picks I didn't: George Valera, Austin Upshaw, Alex Scherff
Comments: The 5th round is the perfect time to start taking some high risk high ceiling guys.

6th Round
Picks I liked: Joey Luchessi, Jasrado Chisholm, Luis Medina
Picks I didnt:  Everyone I don't know lol
Comments: Luchessi may not have a high ceiling but has a high floor.  Medina has a huge ceiling.  Chisholm could rise up charts if he ever gets healthy.

7th Round
Picks I liked: Khalil Lee, Andres Munoz, Jordan Hicks, Jaime Barria
Picks I didn't:  Everyone I didn't know
Comments: Lee has a star ceiling but I passed on him because guys like him rarely pan out due to their huge swing and miss.  Barria is the opposite.  Guys like him always have a place in the league but I also passed on him because he won't ever be a star.  Innings eater.  Regardless, great value in 7th.

8th Round
Picks I liked: Lewin Diaz
Picks I didn't: Everyone else Smile Nah, it's a crapshoot.

BONUS - Akron Draft Reasoning (For those who want to learn from the master...joking)

1st Round
Estevan Florial - Now because Florial swings and misses, he could disappear but he also has huge FANTASY ceiling.  Guy hits home runs, steals bases.  My team is pretty set so I look for possible stars.  Florial has big risk but if he pans out, he's a top 10 player.  If you ever have a chance to take those guys, you take them.  If I had a 1st round pick last year, I would have taken Ronald Acuna who was very similar.  A top 50-75 guy who everyone knew had huge ceiling.  I couldn't believe Florial was left at end of round.

2nd Round
Michael Baez - Has #1 or #2 ceiling.  It was between him and Corbin Burnes but again, I'm going with guys with huge ceilings.  Burnes is a more safe pick but I'm looking for a stud.  I thought Baez and Burnes should have been 1st round picks.  They are top 50 prospects on a lot of lists.  You are going to see him and Burnes rated higher than a lot of the 1st round picks in our draft.
JB Bukauskas - It was between him and Luzardo but JB was expected to be a top 10 pick in the MLB draft but fell to mid round for some reason.  Also, I trust the Astros' ability to develop prospects. I normally don't take MLB 1st rounders but he was too good of value toward end of 2nd round in our draft.
Brandon Marsh - Okay, you might or might not see him on some top 100 lists but I reached just a tiny bit.  Why?  Again, huge FANTASY ceiling.  He's on the short list of guys who could be a top 10 prospect in the future.  If I can take those guys, I always do.

3rd Round
Adonis Medina:  I mean the guy is on baseball america's top 100 list and he's still left at end of 3rd round?  I couldn't believe it.  Now the list hadn't come out but I knew how much they thought of him.  He's rated above Hasely who was taken in 1st round in our draft.  Even so, I wanted Danny Jansen here.  Jansen fixed his eye sight and could be a big offensive force from the catcher position.  Those are rare and Jansen may not be as highly rated as Medina but he's more fantasy valuable.  I was hoping to grab Graterol somewhere around 5th round, big ceiling.  David Peterson was a guy I was targeting too but a round later or so.

4th Round
JoJo Romero: Underrated on a lot of lists but he's top 100 or top 150 on those who actually know scouting reports.  So Keith Law, baseball america and reputable baseball people will be high on him and then if he performs this year, everyone will jump on the bandwagon.  4th round is perfect place for top 100-150 guys with high ceilings.
Logan Allen:  Again, top 100-150 on lists that rely on actual scouting reports.  He's top 10 in a DEEP Padres system.  If he was in the Cubs system, he would be their #1 and would have been a 2nd round pick.  Could be better than some of the more highly regarded Padres pitching prospects above him but lacks the high draft pedigree.
Jose Siri: Okay, in the 4th round I usually take guys like this.  Guys that are probably a fluke but if they aren't, will be fantasy monsters!  Top 150 prospect who will either be a nobody next year (60%), the next big thing (20%) or in between (20%).  Imo, it's always worth the risk because one out of 5 times, you get a stud.

5th Round
Chris Rodriguez:  Again, this is where you trust scouting reports.  If you just look at stat lines, you will pass him over.  The scouts will tell you, ..yea this guy had low era but it's because he threw his fastball the whole time to 18 year olds.  That won't work as he moves up.  Now, this guy over here had bad era but he was working on developing his 2nd and 3rd pitches and believe me, they can be nasty.  If he keeps doing that, just wait!  So some lists he won't get a sniff while others have him top 100.  Scouts say he is one of the few guys who have ace ceiling in the minors.  This is exactly what i'm looking for in a 5th round pick.  I can find average major leaguers on the waiver wire.  I'm looking for possible game changers.
Yasel Antuna: The pickings get slim the later you get but the fact Antuna is 18 and still a top 10 prospect in that system show how good he is.  Could become a top 10 overall prospect but will have to wait two years to see because he's so young.  Again, give me those high ceiling guys.
Ranger Suarez: Guy has always been good but always been hurt.  If a list doesn't actually scout, they won't even know about him.  A lot of the Phillies organization think he is better than Adonis Medina.

6th Round
Daniel Johnson:  See Jose Siri.  Probably a fluke.  I'm playing with house money.  If he turns out to be real, ...cool beans ...if not, it was a 6th rounder.  But I should have taken Luis Medina here.  I thought I could get him with my next pick.
Jose Israel Garcia: Cincy paid 5 mil to get him, still an unknown.  All scouting reports right now.

Auction Round
Seuly Matias: Highest ceiling guy I could find and a top 5 prospect for KC.  Baseball prospectus top 100 prospect.
Dustin May: Dodgers top 10 prospect but this was just another baseball prospectus top 100 guy.  Figured he was worth 3 mil.

Strategy:  So as you can see, my strategy is to take the highest rated guys with the greatest ceilings.  If the scouting reports say the player is likely to be a 4th OF, utility guy or 4th or 5th starter...I can find someone like that on waivers.  Now the guys that have the highest ceilings are closest to the majors are going to be your top 10 or top 25 guys.  So with each lesser round, I'm looking for players who might be those guys in the future.  As it gets later in the draft, the picks become more and more like throwing darts in the dark.  But basically, I'm looking for the future stars and guys most likely to be fantasy valuable.

My strategy for drafting is to rely on my own scouting and projections. I don’t even use baseball America or mlb prospect list more then a secondary source for guys I can’t get video or write up about. Don’t get me wrong baseball America and mlb isn’t bad for real baseball but put way to much impact on closeness to majors and defense. This is why my picks will probably never match a top 100 list.

nice.
MLB List is not a fantasy list but a good source for tool score.
you tube great source to see at bats. but in the end there is no why to know who pick is right or wrong.

my Reach and Steal list is more on how I saw the draft going based on my que list.
