Sign and Trade
# About Sign and Trades: Once a RFA's bid is final, teams have 48 hours to match the bid. In this period a team can arrange to trade the RFA to another team. Trades must be posted within 48 hours of the bid closing and the TC will make an approve/veto decision ASAP or within 24 hours.
# Sign and Trade Usage: Each off-season, each team can be involved in 1 sign and trade. Sign and trades will use 1 RFA match from all teams involved in the trade.
# Max Cash: There will be a Max of $6M in cash allowed in sign and trades.
# Trade Veto: If the trade is not approved by the TC, the last highest offer becomes an official contract with the new team.

Re: Sign and Trade
I want to vote yes on sign and trade, but I think the trade commission should decide what is fair in terms of cash traded.

Re: Sign and Trade
i dont think its fair if lets say...
you win the bid on a player... 3y/$60M total.
matching team got no $$$, and all superstars they dont wanna part ways with
the team with RFA rights goes and trades the player you just won... sends the $20 to cover his salary for a prospect and a draft pick.
to me, this is a garbage trade and the TC shouldnt let something like this happen OR not even have to make the decision to let it happen. That other team should be sending some players to cover cap. If its over/under $6M... it's too much.
its almost turning what could be a realistic situation into monopoly. to me anyway.
this is my reasoning.

Re: Sign and Trade
Am with wash. On this one, not sure I get the example. I like the sign and trade, but don't get the cap on cash.what if your rfa is a $20/superstar but it would not fit. So you try to trade. Your still going to want something for the superstar right. And what ever is sent to you will put you over the cap any ways and only $10 would make it work. So if I was only $5 under and my rfa is a $20 and I trade him for a $5 doller guy why can't I get an extra 10? In the deal. Just saying.cap on this is no good. y have a tc if your going to put caps on trades or trade rules. Let the two team explain their side to tc and let the tc rule.

Re: Sign and Trade
you need a cap on the cash for this situation. people are going to be pissed off they are about to lose thier RFA because someone bid very high. They are going to do whatever it takes to try and get anything... just a pick even... because at this point the person has nothing.
All this does is make a team acquire players that have salary instead of using cash for a replacement.
"So if I was only $5 under and my rfa is a $20 and I trade him for a $5 doller guy why can't I get an extra 10?" You can get $6 or send $6...
"y have a tc if your going to put caps on trades or trade rules."
the rules state....... A trade shall only be vetoed if the TC deems the trade to be evidence of cheating or collusion. Among the things that the trade committee looks at is whether or not any trade moves either team over salary
this is why we need a cap on the salary! if its not those reasons the trades are good.
i think you like to argue the point sometimes and just cant see the big picture.

Re: Sign and Trade
I am still not sure if I understand. In my own words I am going to try to rewrite what you wrote in your example.
So if team A has only 5 million of cap space. Then so he doesn't lose his guy he pays 5 yrs 20 mil and hopes he can do a sign and trade. Now he trades this player and 5 mil (what he has remaining) for one draft pick, as you are saying. Is this said draft pick worth losing 5 mil on? I don't think it is, but let's say it is for this team, is it going to get through the trade committee? No way.
Between the trading teams knowing what is fair and unfair for their owns squads, and also these two teams knowing that there is a committee surveying what is going on, I don't think we need to add additional stipulations here. I cannot see in any circumstance that a bad deal gets through.

Re: Sign and Trade
this is to make teams trade players and not cash.
ill try this again...
if i have an RFA that just got offered 5y/$20M.
now all i have is $20M worth of cap space left but 3 roster spots to fill and a season to get thru.
so instead of letting that player go, why wouldnt i try and find a trade within 48 hours...
so im lookn around and most everyone is in the same boat as me. now, if i send $10M to cover some cap space it could work! So now I trade the rfa player and $10M for d-league player and a pick.
a cap on cash traded during this period will force a team to send players. that is why the nba does it. they dont want teams trading a player with his salary paid for a player that makes the minimum.
its only for sign and trades... its not for any other trades.
im trying to make this league as close to the nba as we can get. the nba has a $3M cash limit on all trades. I figure $6 will be fine for sign and trade so we have a little leeway.
all the rules i want in this league are from the nba. im not pulling this shit out of my ass. i just dont want to see people making stupid moves when theyre pissed off their RFA just got signed and they cant match it.
if you dont get it, look for me on aim... its much easier then making 100 long posts back and forth. doesnt seem like we are getting anywhere this way.

Re: Sign and Trade
i think a 20$ player can be traded for a 5$ player
you just cant get like a 2nd round pick and 10 $ cash or something
but u can deal the 20 guy for a 5 guy and a pick, thus saving 15... ur not getting actual cash sent, but u are still saving money cuz ur not paying 20
is that correct, bravo?

Re: Sign and Trade
Yes.
You can gain/lose an unlimited amount of cash in the deal from players.
you just can't trade more than $6m of actual cash if its a sign and trade.
Let's be honest with ourselves... if more than $6 is being exchanged during this time, its probably not a good deal anyway.
