Re: Milan Michalek IR Exception
Doesnt he have to be ruled out for the year? I don't see any news that has him ruled out for the season. Looks like a clean-up job on the knee.

This is an interesting case, Yahoo has him out "approximately one month" now that effectively puts him just about out for the fantasy season. 4 weeks from now will be the last week of the playoffs. Nowthere is no mention of being shut down for the season but he is effectively shut down for the fantasy season... although that is still an estimate.

I'm a fan of less 'rules'. The IR exemption is for players out for the year, i.e. not coming back until the following season. Ottawa is clearly keeping the door open that Michalek could come back for the NHL playoffs regardless of whether or not that is realistic. Our league is based on theirs... If we start using the 'fantasy' season as the time line gauge, it's all speculation and second guessing. Which 'other' injured players might not come back during the 'fantasy' season? The bottom line is that Michalek isn't being place on long-term IR (according to any reports right now), so he should be ineligible for FCC IR exemption.

What is the verdict on the Exception? He is considered out indefinitely.

The Senators have not placed him on long-term IR according to any source I can find and are, granted carefully, not saying that he is 'out for the season'. While I'm sure they will as the NHL trade deadline approaches in 2 weeks, they aren't saying it right now...
Another example is Justin Faulk. He's listed as out 2-4 weeks meaning he may not be available for the remainder of the FCC season. He should not be an IR exception, though.

Re: Milan Michalek IR Exception
I am going to have to go ahead and say No to this one.
It looks like he will be out for almost all of fantasy, but he was not placed on Longterm IR or ever declared out for the year so unfortunately he isn't granted the exception
