Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
No, no
Again, you can't bid on someone new just because someone else said he was gonna bid on Pierce.
Your bid on Pierce counted whether you didn't want it to or not. There was no way you could get Rudy Gay at the time his bid was about to be won.

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
Thai made his bid on Pierce at 5:35am
An hour AFTER Sydney had already made his bid on Rudy Gay.

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
I see your point, I'll refrain from doing that in future. I figured if both bids weren't won, and I KNEW one wouldn't be then would be all good when winning bids were final, but in hindsight I can see why that would be against the rules. Gotcha.

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
Yes I meant that in that i knew thai had said a hour before I bidded he's putting a bid on and thought it done but should have been more diligent in checking, as I didn't really consider the illegality of placing the bid if he hadn't yet - but I see why tht would be illegal. Fuck it's easier not to explain trough iPhone typing!

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
On the positive side I didn't really wanna pay all that money to gay, but don't mind paying the money I'm paying PP! I'd rather have PPs deal.

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
ahh yea, not good to assume you'd lose a guy
every bid has to be made with the assumption it's being won and coming out of your cap
good that you're learning early and are very excited, passionate bout this league
really enjoy having ya here, bud

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
Yeah, to clarify I didn't ASSUME I'd lose one, I didn't explain that well, thai told me the bid he was putting in as we were having roster discussions, I said go for it he said ok. The part I assumed was he had put it in by then, I'd never assume I was gonna lose a bid but knew I had but thai had yet to officially put it in - if that makes sense.
Thanks man enjoying the league a lot!! Only league I have with a fellow suns fanatic!! I bought the 7 seconds book by McAllum the other day about the suns, haven't started it yet but looks cool.

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
I'd rather have PPs deal too. You don't want two Kyle Lowry contracts on your roster haha.
Like JI said, Definitely good to see you are so active!

Yep Kyle has a big deal and hard I afford another, I think he's gonna be a star this year though, more than gay and he's younger so I think es deals ok, but coupled with other big deals your right makes it tougher!

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS

that was a hot debate before but we eventually allowed it
good catch on sydney's bids, i was looking at them but thought he may have been okay and didnt bother crunching the numbers
we have never been able to count rollover. Yes he can do nothing and get cash, but what if he is fine during the year. you can't count the the future $$

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
yes we do allow assuming the rollover
it happened a couple years ago. i forget which owner it was but jb was like, well the rollover would make him good
we had a big debate on it and the dude was allowed to have his player
cant remember who it was but we allowed it

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
but if a guy has 20 mil right now, but next yr's cap says 10mil left over
allowing him to bid 11/11 should be fine since it's leaving him with 8mil after the 11 this yr and 1 for going over the 10 next yr
otherwise, what real good is the rollover other than to frontload or give a boost for 1yr deals?

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
Yeah hard to remember, maybe SAM should just say yes or no and amend the rule book!

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
I never thought about fines.
Though what if someone spent exactly what they had available this year and next. They could do that legally under the rules without using rollover ...and what if they were fined then?
I have no problem being able to use rollover. Just a simple math formula for Mr. Dan to put in to calculate it for the next year haha. Basically just add whatever money you have this year, up to 20 to the next year and it adjusts as you spend the money

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
yea, we gotta be able to assume rollover since math easily allows it
fines are a whole diff ballgame. if someone doesnt have $$$, loss of current draft pick or future picks could be applied.
there's always a way to make sure someone has to own up to their mistake/fine

Re: Rudy Gay RFA SF MEMPHIS
Soo since Matt didn't match Gay goes to Tony. Cause according to the rulebook:
After a bid closes on a player (24 hours), the team with the restricted free agent has 48 hours to match the offer. If the player's original team does not exercise its matching rights within 48 hours, the offer becomes an official contract with the new team.

Looks like all that was unnecessary since Matt didn't even match. Worse free agency ever?
